Google Flights' Newest Feature!

Google Flights dropped a new feature that will save us money – "cheapest time to book" paired with a "cheapest fare alert", giving it an edge over other metasearch engines like Skyscanner, Kayak etc.

🌍 How google flights stand out?

Read on 👇 👇

💼 painpoints addressed:
- Allow us to compare across airlines and Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) like MakeMyTrip, Yatra, etc. in one place
- ‘Alert’ feature will ensure we get the best deals without facing buyer's remorse.
- Google flight displays extra baggage, seating, and service charges upfront, avoiding surprises later.

🛫successmetrics:
- % of users keeping fare alert on and completing booking with the low fare (Northstar metrics for this new feature)
- % of users who complete bookings
- Higher Search-to-Booking ratio showcases a seamless journey.
- Time spent on the platform, interactions with filters etc. shows active involvement.
- % of users who keep returning.
- Higher Average Order Value (AOV) showcases the platform's ability to drive valuable bookings.
- Introducing new airlines, routes, and destinations. A growing reach reflects catering to diverse user preferences.

💰 revenuestrategy:
Commissions from airlines and OTAs when a user clicks on a flight link on Google Flights. Advertisers also pay for visibility on Google Flights' platform. In the past, Google charged airlines a booking fee for each flight booked through Google Flights but, in January 2020, this fee was waived to attract more airlines and OTAs to Google Flights. 2021/22 saw Google Flights earn $1.5 billion in revenue. This is a small fraction of Google's overall revenue, but it is growing rapidly.

💼 challenges:
OTAs and other metasearch engines keep enhancing user experiences and offerings. direct airline traveler bonds may reroute users away from Google Flights. regulatorycompliance by governments for equal visibility for all travel search products poses another threat as in the past, Google has favored Google Flights in its search results.

🎨 improvements to enhance google flights:

- Crafting personalized trip recommendations based on past travel history. Further, recommendations on travel hotspot or a cultural ‘must have’ experience can be included in these itineraries based on trendanalysis

- AI-driven imagerecognition to discover destinations from our uploaded photos can make our booking experience visual and interactive.

- AI-powered chatbots to guide through bookings and answer queries and ai concierge to streamline bookings.

- travel narratives can be displayed along with virtualtours of accommodations and destinations to help in confident decision making.

- realtime translationservices can be implemented to break language barriers for global inclusivity.

🌐✨ Overall, I feel the future of travel booking with Google Flights is promising, fueled by innovation and a touch of AI enchantment.
